Solheimajokull Glacier (continued) - the Mars-like landscape ends abruptly at this massive glacier. For perspective, note the people walking down the path in the foreground, as well as the people that are actually on top of the glacier in the distance.
Solheimajokull Glacier - by now, you're getting the hang of the Icelandic language, right? Yes...of course - me too! This is the first of a couple photos I'll share from our next stop - Solheimajokull Glacier. It was less than 30 minutes towards Vik from Skógafoss. You hang a left off the Ring Road and drive through a Mars-like landscape for 3-5km, park and walk up a short trail. The first sign of the glacier is photographed here - with a few ice calves. Someone decided to get a closer look and helped to convey the scale of the calves. - by now, you're getting the hang of the Icelandic language, right? Yes...of course - me too! Up in the Clouds of Skógafoss - In yesterday's post, I mentioned I'd see if I could salvage any photos from the top of Skógafoss. Here is one - the actual waterfall is +/- 1/2 mile to the left of this photo - this is the flow of water that leads up to the eventual 200 ft drop. Next stop - a glacier!
